Huge mural in Vilnius to support Ukraine
27 m high. 230 m²
A portrait of a Ukrainian volunteer based on the photograph taken by Elena Tita appeared on the wall of the former “House of Moscow” in Vilnius. A group of artists from Lithuania, Estonia, and Ukraine decided to use the space of a blank wall to remind us again about Russian aggression and the unbending will of the Ukrainian people.

The Vilnius authorities have given permission to create a fresco. However, there were also those who called the police, who not only came to the place of the action but even installed a surveillance camera so that potential vandals would not be able to cause harm.
The building that was supposed to become a symbol of the russian power, has been turned into a symbol of the strength and courage of Ukraine
“Of course, we chose the “House of Moscow” not by chance. This building was supposed to become a symbol of Russia's power, we will now immortalize in it what causes convulsions in the Kremlin – Ukraine's decisive rebuff. In a certain sense, we are giving the House of Moscow to Ukraine. We can do it all together – artists, entrepreneurs and all people of good will. I personally like it very much, it looks impressive, it exceeds my expectations as I imagined it would look like. The work should always look better in reality than in the project, and it really looks even better. It's impressive and that size works,"Lina Šlipavičiūtė, artist, idea's author.

Bayraktar from the Artists
“Even before the official opening, there were a lot of questions: why is a girl depicted on the fresco, and not a warrior, not children, not someone else? And I decided for myself that this photo depicts Ukraine. And I'll explain why.

We are about the same age as independent Ukraine. Secondly, Ukraine, as a woman, is peaceful, she has never attacked anyone first. Ukraine, like any fragile, beautiful woman, needs the help of strong men, and the support of others, which I see in Lithuania. And here you can draw an allegory with countries that help Ukraine with weapons, money, and so on. And all these allegories permeate this photo, and it just so happens that my image embodies all of them. And most importantly, the photographer Elena Tita, when she took this picture, said that she saw defiance in my eyes, and this is what the people of Ukraine showed.

All the factors have coincided, thanks to which you can see a small image of Ukraine in this photo,” – Tetiana Drobotia, the muse, volunteer of Charitable Foundation “Volunteer Center "Palyanitsya” in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

”FEELS LIKE I’VE BUILT A ROBOT JUST FOR THIS”
These words said Estonian artist and operator of the one-of-a-kind robot muralist Mihkel Joala after finishing the project that shows support for Ukraine.

So here are details about the technical side of the project: “The robot weighs about 50 kilograms, is suspended on cables and controlled by a computer. Printing is done from bottom to top along the strips, according to the developed program. There are 5 colors. I used 3 primary colors: yellow, blue and red. In addition, there is black and white. It took 14 hours and 150 bottles of paint, 450 ml each to create the fresco. Although I had to stop while it was raining and wait for the wall to dry a little. It's quite a long time, but if you compare it to how long an artist takes to work on a drawing of this size by hand, it could take a week or even two. It took me only one day”, – the artist said.
